Ranchi, Aug. 5: Rakhi is round the corner and it is time for women to shop!
Colourful bangles and rakhis adorned with sequins and beads attracted visitors at the three-day Shravan Jhinjara that kicked off at Maheshwari Bhavan today. Chief guest on the occasion was chief minister Madhu Koda’s wife Geeta Koda.
Women entrepreneurs from Calcutta and Mumbai took charge of over 35 stalls under the guidelines of the Maheshwari Mahila Samiti.
Koda, while addressing the members, said: “It’s a good platform for women entrepreneurs to showcase their skills. It would also bring about awareness and boost their confidence.”
The organiser of the programme, Anita Saboo, said over 30 members of the association participated in the event. “The money collected from the fair would be donated for the welfare of Cheshire Home inmates,” Saboo added.
A women entrepreneur, Shashi Prabha, who has been into garment manufacturing for the past two years, participated in the event for the first time.
“I have got special kurtis from Delhi in georgette and synthetic material that cost Rs 500. College students have taken a fancy to them,” Prabha added.
While Rohit Chaurasia, who has a Jaipur bangles stall, had a colourful display of goodies priced at Rs 15 onwards.
“We have also brought bangles adorned with colourful beads and sequins, which are in huge demand during Shravan,” he added.
Sheshtha Bhala of the city, who had displayed rakhis and lumbas on display was very enthusiastic. “We have taken special care for children, who like interesting rakhis,” she said.
