Imphal, Aug. 4: Imphal East lifted the overall team champions’ title, bagging 33 medals in the 24th all-Manipur Karate-Do Championship held at Khuman Lampak Indoor Hall here.
Imphal East karatekas collected 24 gold, six silver and three bronze, while the Imphal West team took the runners-up title with 14 gold, six silver and a bronze in the meet.
On Sunday evening, Th. Digvijay Singh won the gold for the Imphal West team in the senior black belt individual kata event, while Md Amir Khan of Imphal East took the silver and Th. Bishorjit Singh of Imphal West collected the bronze.
In the senior black belt individual kumite, Md Amir Khan of Imphal East walked away with the gold while Th. Bishorjit Singh of Imphal West bagged the silver.
Imphal West karateka Th. Digvijay Singh won yet another gold in the senior open kumite, while Md Amir Khan of Imphal East fetched the silver and M. Shashikumar Singh of Imphal West won the bronze.
District badminton
Defending champion L. Nandakumar Singh retained the men’s singles title of the 2nd Imphal West District Badminton Championship held at MBA Indoor Stadium on the DM College campus, reports our sports correspondent from Imphal. In the final of the men’s singles, Nandakumar defeated H. Kishen Singh 21-19, 21-19 for the title.
In the junior boys’ singles final, Ch. Naoba Singh overcame Rk. Chinir Singh by 25-23 and 22-20 points in a tough game to take the title. H. Kishen Singh and Rk. Chinir Singh met with stiff opposition from L. Nandakumar Singh and L. Momo Singh but came back strongly to win the doubles title 13-21, 22-20, 21-14.
