Police job lolly to molest women

Jamshedpur, Aug. 3: A person faking a sub-inspector of a police station allegedly tried to outrage the modesty of two women on the pretext of providing them job in the police department.

The “policeman” in question, Nagendra Singh, also took Rs 43,000 from the family.

Santu Poddar, who run a shop at Baridih marketplace, came across the policeman one day at his shop.

The man, who introduced himself as sub-inspector Nagendra Singh, said he can provide employment to anyone in the police department.

On being told about this, Poddar said if he could arrange a job for his wife at the police department. On the next visit to the shop, Nagendra said there are seven vacant post — five for lady constables and three for men — in East Singhbhum district.

When Poddar asked for job for his sister-in-laws also, Nagendra asked for Rs 43,000 which he readily paid.

Nagendra told Poddar that the three women had to appear for physical fitness test for which he would train them at his place. Sources said Poddar, his wife and his sister-in-laws went to Nagendra’s house in Baridih.

The wife of Poddar said that the accused policeman sent her husband outside and kept the three sisters in the room on the pretext of seeing their fitness before the holding pre-medical test and physical fitness session.

She claimed the man took her to a room where he asked her to do some physical exercise. Then he molested her. “I thought he was teaching me those exercise. When he crossed his limit, I came out of the room,” said the woman.

She said she thought as she has objected to his actions he would not repeat it with her sisters. One of her sister went into the room next but Nagendra again tried to molest her.

“This time the man bolted the room from inside, which made us think what he is up to. We started knocking on the door but he did not open it. We started shouting to alert the people of the locality. Nagendra opened the door and I got to know that he attempted to rape my sister,” said the victim. Poddar, his wife and his sister-in-laws left the place immediately.

Later they got to know that the man is a fraud.

They met East Singhbhum superintendent of police Naveen Kumar Singh this evening and related the whole thing to him. They have lodged an FIR against this man. Singh said he would initiate step to arrest the man. He, however, confirmed that the man in question is not a policeman.
