The Natural Way

I am a 31-year-old woman with dry skin. I get tanned easily. I am taking swimming lessons. But we’re not allowed to apply anything before getting into the pool. Please help.

Angona, Calcutta

After a swim, shower and apply a good quality sunscreen. Make an uptan using orange peel, oatmeal, sandalwood powder, lemon juice and milk. Use this to scrub your skin gently while bathing.

I am a 20-year-old woman. I want to know whether the hair-removing products available in the market are safe. Or should I go for waxing? Also, some white spots have appeared on my cheeks and my skin also lacks glow. Please help.

Subhadra Das, Guwahati

Waxing is a safe and effective method. Your skin requires professional cleaning. Go to a good salon.

Cosmetic cures

I am a 30-year-old woman. I would like to know whether pressed powder and translucent powder produce different effects. How are they used and applied?

Sneha, via e-mail

Yes, they do produce different effects. Translucent powder ‘sets’ make-up and minimises shine, but it does not add either coverage or colour. The difference between pressed powder and translucent powder is that the pressed powder is denser than the latter.Translucent powder should be applied sparingly using a large professional powder brush. It provides light coverage and it may also be used to refresh make-up or even in place of foundation for quick application.Make sure to use a clean puff or sponge to apply pressed powder.
