Schoolboy drowns

Calcutta, Aug. 2: A Class XII student drowned today while taking a dip in a pond after a football match at Jadu Colony in Behala.

Divers fished out the body of Roon Sengupta, 17, a commerce student of a reputable school. Police said he was with four friends when he drowned while trying to swim across the pond.

Prisoners flee

Raiganj: Five Bangladeshis held for crossing over illegally escaped while police were escorting them out of a van in front of the Raiganj prison on Saturday. Seven others also tried to es- cape but were caught.

Fake licence

Calcutta: Police caught a man with 14 fake driving licences from the port area. Abdul Kamal, 50, allegedly took Rs 1,500 to Rs 2,000 for a fake licence.

Air fare

Calcutta: Low-cost carrier Air India Ex- press has announced a special fare for its Calcutta-Singapore flights. The one-way fare from August 1 to September 30 will be Rs 1,299, excluding taxes.
