More SEZs cleared

New Delhi, Aug. 1: The government today cleared 29 proposals for setting up SEZs in the country. The board of approval at its meeting here gave formal approval to 23 SEZs and an in-principle nod to six other projects. A total of 34 SEZ proposals were taken up by the board chaired by commerce secretary Gopal Pillai. Of the 23 formal approvals, 17 were for IT and ITeS zones in Kerela, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra and Karnataka.

Export move

New Delhi, Aug. 1: With the rupee depreciating against the dollar, the government said it would withdraw the interest subvention scheme extended to exporters with effect from September 30.

Overseas funds

Mumbai, Aug. 1: A high level committee on financial markets under the chairmanship of RBI governor is understood to have discussed the issue of raising the cap for bringing money raised overseas by infrastructure companies into India.

Iron ore price

New Delhi, Aug. 1: After steel industry, the government may now ask iron ore miners to exercise voluntary restraint on prices to check inflation that has spiralled close to 12 per cent.

Deccan fare

Mumbai, Aug. 1: Deccan has decided to put on hold their proposal to hike base fares by 10 per cent so that its patrons can continue to enjoy value flying.
