Table tennis meet cancelled
Calcutta: The Bengal Olympic Association (BOA), at a press conference on Thursday, alleged that the Table Tennis Federation of India (TTFI) has “sabotaged” a proposed tournament between the Bangladesh and Bengal players. The meet — Epar Bangla-Opar Bangla — was scheduled to start from Sunday.
It was alleged that TTFI vice-president Prabir Mitra sent a letter to the Bangladesh Olympic Association asking them to withdraw from the meet on technical grounds. Mitra reasoned that the meet was organised by a body not recognised by the TTFI. As a result, Bangladesh withdrew.
BOA president Paresh Nath Mukherjee will take up the matter with Indian Olympic Association after the Olympics. Efforts to contact Mitra failed.
