Regional meet for ICSE schools

Jamshedpur, July 31: Principals of Jamshedpur ICSE schools have left for ICSE schools’ annual regional conference scheduled at Mount Assisi School in Bhagalpur on August 2.

At the conference problems faced by the school authorities and the council would be discussed by the additional secretary and officiating chief officer of Council for Indian School Certificate Examination Gerry Arathoon.

“Although discussions are generally based on the problems or issues related to children but principals can also talk to the secretary about some specific problems. Apart from this, some people are invited to deliver speech on some topic,” said Manjula Chatterjee, the principal of Gulmohar High School, Telco.

This year CEO of Students’ Empowerment Rights and Vision through Education (SERVE), a Calcutta-based NGO, Brother Brendan MacCarthaigh would deliver speech on the topic Growing Psychological Problems Among Children- Identification and Management.

“It would be an opportunity for me to interact with the principals and tell them about the problems of schoolchildren. I have planned to conduct a psychological test for them that would help them understand their students better,” MacCarthaigh told The Telegraph over phone from Calcutta.

He wants to talk about the education system in India which is not suitable for the students as it puts too much emphasis on examination.

“I would be an interactive session where I would give them guidelines to deal with the problem and ask for their feedback. Report cards should be treated as a mere document. As we stress on results so much there are hundreds of cases of student suicides due to poor performance in examinations,” said MacCarthaigh.
