Honour eludes Shitikant

Giridih, July 31: He has won two accolades in the past few months, but the state government is yet to recognise this physics genius.

Shitikanth Burnwal, who bagged the gold medal in the international physics olympiad in Hanoi, Vietnam, and topped the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) entrance examination has been felicitated by the Homi Jahagir Bhabha Research Center Mumbai, the Chief Justice of India, the Bihar and the Rajasthan government.

But the state government is yet to honour the 17-year-old achiever.

Other than Shitikanth, three other members of the Indian squad won gold medals for the country while one student bagged a silver in 39th International Physics Olympiad that concluded in Hanoi on July 29.“With five medals in the physics olympiad, this was India’s best performance ever,” declared Dr Vijay Kumar Singh, the co-ordinator of the Bhabha Research Centre, Mumbai. The research centre is the nodal body of the olympiad in India.
