Student histrionics
Theatre in the city has always had a vibrant presence. Adding spice to one of Calcutta’s most popular modes of entertainment is the finals of Patton School One Act Play Competition, celebrating the city’s students’ passion and dedication for the stage. Selected on the basis of their scripts, 12 of the best schools in the city will be vying with one another to secure the top spot in a contest that promises to unleash a powerhouse of fresh theatre talent. Preparation for the final performance has been meticulous with Padatik arranging a five-day theatre workshop at their premises. Covering acting and technical aspects, it was conducted by eminent theatre personalities Dolly Basu, Santanu Bose and Sohini Sengupta. Contestants: Birla High School for Girls (play in Bengali), Lakshmipat Singhania Academy (play in Hindi), Modern High School for Girls, Calcutta Girls’ High School, Birla High School for Boys, St. James’ School, Apeejay School, Julien Day School Ganganagar, La Martiniere for Boys, Vivekananda Mission School, Calcutta International School and The Heritage School (plays in English). Judges: Zarin Chowdhary and Samarjit Guha.
