Canine ‘blessings’ for better life
- Pups, full-grown dogs & breeders on demand

Ranchi, July 27: Canine intervention to ward off evils to bring good health, wealth and prosperity has led to sudden spurt in demand for pet dogs in the city.

Apart from genuine dog lovers, the number of people who are seeking dogs to influence planetary dispensation, has seen more than 50 per cent rise in the demand for puppies. Some who are in a great hurry due to astrological advice even pay for a full-grown dog.

Number of dog breeders who provide pedigreed pups in and around the city has increased. There are at least half a dozen persons who are in the trade and can procure pups ranging right from Pug, Spitz, Great Dane, Dalmatian, German Shepherd, Labrador, Doberman, Golden Retriever, Cocker Spaniel and Dachshund.

“Whichever breed you want, I can get it and deliver it to you,” says Sanjay Raman, a well-known breeder. Demand for pups has increased by at least 50 per cent and people order for specific colours. “For shoni and ketu, the astrologers recommend spotless black dogs. And demand for black dogs has suddenly risen and people are ready to shell out a good amount for it,” he says. Earlier, people kept dogs for glamour then it was for security and now it is also for the “pooja-path” (astrological reasons) and companionship.

He gets his pups right from Calcutta, Delhi, Bangalore and other major cities where there are good breeders who ensure quality of the pups. While German Shepherd, Doberman, Labrador, Retriever cost anywhere between Rs 5,000 and 8,000, Pugs are priced at Rs 18,000-25,000. Pure Pomeranians sell at Rs 15,000.

“There are demands of pups in different colours for astrological reasons and we do ensure that the customer gets it,” says Sunil Singh “Pintoo”, another well-known breeder in the city.

Astrologers and pundits from Varanasi maintain that the dogs not only know the present and the future but also the past. Their power of smell and sixth sense makes them highly intelligent and they can make out what is going to happen. “Yeh agam ke jaankar hoten hain aur Bhairav ke roop mein shiv awatar hain. Yeh jyotishi hi nahin hai balki tantrik bhi hai aur sabki vyadhi dukh har leta hai,” says NityaNand Tripathi, popularly known as Bade punditji in Varanasi. He recommends feeding of black dog, black cow and crow for warding off trouble, anxiety and pain, especially on Tuesdays, Saturdays and Sundays.

Vinay Rai, a veterinary doctor at Ratu block, is a true dog lover and also believes in giving reiki, an alternative way of treatment, to them. “Dogs provide a great psychological boost to the person and help in growth of children,” he said.
