Derby likely on August 5
The IFA is likely to hold the season’s third derby between Mohun Bagan and East Bengal on August 5 and not August 3 as scheduled earlier. The change has become necessary because of the monsoon that has been playing spoilsport in the ongoing Premier Division.
Olympian no more
Olympian Chandan Singh, 82, passed away in Darjeeling following illness. He is survived by wife and two sons. He was part of the India soccer team in the 1952 Helsinki Olympics. The midfielder played for East Bengal.
Golf camp
Eighteen leading lady golfers of the country will participate in a seven-day golf coaching camp organised by the Indian Golf Union Ladies Section (IGULS) at the RCGC from Monday to continue till August 3. Top five city golfers will also participate in the camp conducted by former golfer Indrajit Bhalotia.
Snooker meet
All leading state players will participate in the Lala Ghasiram Kalanoria 9-ball Open championship at SAI on Saturday and Sunday. The tournament is organised by SAI Snooker Players Club.
Sanyal in team
Sheshadri Sanyal of Gopichand East Zone Badminton School has been selected in the Indian team for Asian Youth Championships in Brunei from August 4. The team comprises 11 players.
Table tennis
The J.N. Banerjee memorial Table Tennis Championships will be held at the YMCA, Chowringhee, on Friday.
