Second helping
Tandoori Chicken at the new Amber. Picture by Rashbehari Das

Get ready to tuck into the famous Mutton Reshmi Kebab, Fish Masala or Rogan Josh that have been specialties at Amber since 1959, at their newest outlet in south Calcutta. Their second outlet, at 28A Suren Tagore Road (opposite Gariahat Pantaloons), has replaced the low-key takeaway counter at Gol Park, and now offers the same quality north Indian fare to south Calcuttans as it has been at its Waterloo Street address.

Amber has opened the 1,500 sq ft restaurant to provide a “casual and affordable dining experience” without compromising on the cuisine. The simple decor underlies the stress on food.

Specials of the day add to the spread. A new tea-time menu has been introduced where kebabs, sandwiches, cutlets, coffees and mocktails will provide customers looking for a quick snack plenty of options. “We wanted to expand with this new format where we would have 40-seater restaurants providing meals, snacks and takeaway options,” said Sanjay Khullar, director of the Amber group of restaurants that includes Sagar and Zaranj. The decor of the new outlet may soon be enhanced, and you can expect to see rolls on the menu in the near future.

While it has taken some time, plans are also afoot to start a new lounge-restaurant at Silver Arcade.

Till then, south Calcuttans can choose from traditional favourites like Chicken Reshmi Kebab, Mutton Peshawari Burra, Chicken Reshmi Butter Masala, Mutton Masala, Chana Masala, Nargisi Keema as well as a range of Continental dishes like Chicken Princess and Vegetable Au Gratin.

A meal for two will cost around Rs 450.
