Jamshedpur, July 14: Adventure enthusiasts can look forward to rafting in the Subernarekha this month-end.
The Tata Steel Adventure Foundation (TSAF) would inaugurate the event on July 29, the birth anniversary of JRD Tata. The event would continue till Octo- ber end.
Being touted as one of the most sought-after events, people from different age groups have been assembling in Joyda (near Chandil) to jive into the excitement of this adventure sport. Subernarekha flows through Joyda, a scenic picturesque spot.
“The annual rafting programme kicks off on July 29. As usual, elaborate arrangements will be made to conduct the programme in an effective manner,” said P.P. Kapadia, the TSAF secretary. Depending upon the weather, the programme will continue till October-end,” he said.
Kapadia added that participants would have to apply before taking part in rafting. Equipment and instructors would be provided by the foundation.
“We will also make arrangements for travelling to Joyda. The participants will assemble at our office in JRD Tata Sports Complex, from where they would be taken to Joyda in a bus,” he said.
Adults would be charged Rs 350 per person while the children would be required to shell out Rs 250.
The programme would start at 9.30am.
The senior TSAF functionary said they have five instructors to conduct the rafting schedule.
“While two are in the city at present, three are still in the Garhwal Himalayas, conducting our outdoor development programme. But they’ll be back by July-end.
“Apart from that, we also have a pool of trained instructors at our disposal. They have been taking part in our local and outstation activities for some time now. They are very much a part of our team and we will avail their services from time to time,” Kapadia said. The rafting event is one among a host of programmes in the annual TSAF calendar. The volume of activities, including local and outstation outdoor development programmes, has increased because of the interest shown by adventure sports enthusiasts.
Apart from the thrill and excitement, the programmes also teach character and team building. “It also boosts confidence and is very good for maintaining overall fitness,” said Kapadia.
The TSAF conducts outdoor development programmes for corporate houses, academic institutes as well as common people.
