Aloka Sarkar, wife of the late Ashok Kumar Sarkar, died at a south Calcutta nursing home at 10.24pm on Sunday. She was 83 and is survived by three sons, a daughter, daughters- in-law and grandchildren.

She was born in the renowned Dutta family of Rambagan to Sachindrakrishna Dutta and Usharani Dutta and studied in Bethune School and Victoria Institution.

Mrs Sarkar was associated with the social work of Sri Sarada Math, Sri Saradeswari Ashram and Ramakrishna Math and Mission.
