Insomnia at its birthday bash.

What can you expect at the birthday celebrations of a six-year-old? Music, friends and lots of fun. That’s precisely what city band Insomnia’s sixth birthday bash was all about. With its brand of explosive music and trendy lyrics, Insomnia managed to bring in quite a few followers in the city who dropped by at Planet M on Monday evening to party with the band.

It was a bit of a musical overload as the festivities kicked off with four bands — Krishti, 6th Veda, Altered Karma and Kryptic — who came forward to showcase their music to celebrate Insomnia’s anniversary. What followed was a musical medley as the birthday boys took centre stage to perform their originals Earth, Odhormer shaar, Shunyo and Cry Of The Spirit.

A screening of the band’s twin videos was also part of the fare — for Proloyer shomoye and a recent one for the single Parallel Universe, which appears in The Underground: Kolkata compilation from Saregama. The band also launched its official website, www.insomniated.com, at the do.

Looking ahead, Insomnia plans on hosting a concert with an orchestra. “We’re looking for musicians to play the violin, viola, cello and double bass for the show. We also want to go national,” beamed Sayantan, Insomnia frontman.
