Mill man killed

Burdwan, July 14: Three men on motorbikes shot dead a rice mill owner’s son and sped away with his handbag, which had Rs 5 lakh.

Police said Sheikh Imdad Ali was attacked when he was about to enter the mill at Galsi in Burdwan, about 120km from Calcutta. He was supposed to pay off paddy suppliers today.

Power study

Calcutta: Salim Group associate Prasun Mukherjee met power minister Mrinal Banerjee on Monday and said a “pre-feasibility study” for the proposed 10,000MW power plant would be completed in two to three months. The study will “establish where the plant should be built”.

Digha fish

Tamluk: Twenty tourists suffered food poisoning after eating fried fish from stalls along the Digha beach. Fifteen had to be hospitalised. The tourists were from Barasat, Ashoknagar and Habra in North 24-Parganas. The stalls had been declared illegal because they often sold stale fish.

Assembly

Calcutta: The Ass- embly was adjourned on Monday after members paid their homage to the late Congress MLA Ruby Noor. It will resume on Tuesday.
