Korea hold Pakistan 3-3

Hyderabad: Pakistan conceded a last minute goal to allow South Korea escape with a 3-3 draw in a thrilling pool ‘B’ match in the sixth men’s Junior Asia Cup hockey tournament at the Gachibowli Stadium here on Sunday. After being 0-2 down at the breather, Pakistan made a spirited fightback to take a 3-2 lead three minutes from the final hooter but failed to stop Lee Yong Kuk of South Korea to convert a penalty corner in the last minute.

Atwal slumps

Bridgeport: Arjun Atwal’s form slump continued and he carded a four-over 76 in the penultimate round of Nationwide Tour Players Cup to slide to the tied 65th spot in the $1 million event. The Orlando-based golfer, who is trying to earn back his PGA tour card, has a three-round total of three-over 219 at the Pete Dye Golf club.

Pak schedule

Karachi: International cricket will return to Toronto next month when Pakistan, the West Indies, Bangladesh and hosts Canada play in a four-day Twenty20 competition. A Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) official said the organisers of the tournament have got permission from the ICC and Pakistan will submit a provisional squad of 20 in the next three days for the August 14 to 17 quadrangular event.

PCB stand

Karachi: Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) on Sunday ruled out allowing its players to take part in next year’s Indian Premier League if it clashes with their rescheduled home series against Australia. “We don’t see any confrontation with the players over the clash of dates of the IPL with the Australian tour. International commitments take precedence over the domestic tournaments,” PCB chief operating officer Shafqat Naghmi said.

India A win

Ashdod (Israel): Rajat Bhatia wrecked the Israeli batting order with a four-wicket haul before India A chased down the hosts’ paltry total in just 5.5 overs to kick off its tour with a facile nine-wicket win on Sunday.
Former South African star Jonty Rhodes, who played for the Israeli side, was the only batsman to manage a double-digit score of 11.

BRIEF SCORES
Israel 53 (Jonty Rhodes 11; Rajat Bhatia 4/5) India A 54/1. India A won by 9 wkts.
