Ranchi, July 11: The city traffic police have moved a proposal to provide pollution masks to all its personnel.
“Vehicle exhaust fumes affect the eyes and the respiratory tract. Petrol or gas-fuelled engines produce up to 10 per cent carbon monoxide. Thus, we have proposed to provide quality pollution masks to each traffic personnel,” said Ranchi traffic superintendent of police Dadanjee Sharma.
There are 1.5 lakh vehicles, including 4,000 diesel autorickshaws, in the city and this number is increasing by 35,000 every year. Traffic police are on duty from 5am to 8pm every day.
Sharma said, another proposal has also been mooted to grant a 15 per cent allowance to the traffic police.
“We have requested the state government for an extra allowance. This allowance would in no case exceed the inconvenience allowance being paid to police posted in the rebel areas,” the traffic SP said.
