Athletics meet

Guwahati: The Assam Athletic Association will organise the 2nd North East Athletic Championship at Indira Gandhi Athletics Stadium here on July 14 and 15. All the seven affiliated state units of the Athletics Federation of India — Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya, Tripura, Sikkim and Assam — will participate in the meet.

Sub-jr soccer

Kokrajhar: The 32nd All-Assam Sub-Junior Football Championship will kick off at Gosaigaon College ground in Kokrajhar district on Saturday. In the opening match, Kokrajhar will play Rangia. A total of 35 teams from different parts of the state have confirmed participation.

Lions chess

Guwahati: Top seed Debashish Dutta and 2nd seed Krishnashish Gogoi shared the lead with two points each after two rounds in the Lions Kamrupa Children Chess Championship. Indranil Talukdar, Asifa Masum, Bhaskarjyoti Neog, Suraj Dey and Kabyanil Talukdar were in second place with 1.5 points each.

PC Borooah

Guwahati: The P.C. Borooah Selection Chess Championship got under way here on Friday. Altogether 35 players of the academy are participating in the tournament from which the team for the all-Assam meet will be selected.
