Guwahati, July 6: Jewel Star today ousted Assam Police Blues 2-1 in a lacklustre match of the 4th N.N. Bhattacharjee knockout football tournament at Nehru Stadium here today.
The first half was a drab affair and the only bright part of the session was when Man of the Match Dawa Lamba ruffled the Police net in the 38th minute of the match.
In the second half of the match, the Police team gave in a lot more effort to score the equaliser. Their efforts bore fruit in the 73rd minute, through Kubal Rabha whose powerful low volley from just outside the box left the Jewel Star custodian Dibyender Naskar rooted to the ground.
However, their joy was short lived as Lamba scored the second goal for his team through a strong shot from the left flank in the 75th minute. Down by 2-1, Police mounted pressure and played some attacking football in the last 15 minutes, but by then it was too late.
Molong Ao, one of the police coaches, said the forward line did not click today.
Jewel Star will now play Sports Authority of India Sports Club on July 9.
Tomorrow, Maharana AC will take on Rajbari AC.
