People learn first lessons to prevent diseases
Villagers attend a medical camp organised by Trishakti Crops.

Medical camps were organised under the aegis of the Trishakti Corps’ Kripan Division at Chakla and Belwa, two remote villages in Kishanganj district, recently.

The programmes, organised in association with the district health department, were held to address the medical problems faced by the people, including ex-servicemen, and to enhance their awareness on communicable and deficiency diseases prevalent in the area. The camps saw doctors checking 4,342 people for water-borne diseases, malnutrition, anaemia, worm infestation, tuberculosis, diabetes, hypertension, HIV infection and common dental ailments.

The patients who needed advanced investigation and special treatment were referred to MGM Medical College and Lion’s Hospital, both in Kishenganj.

The villagers were provided with medicines and laboratory facilities free of cost.

A talk on preventive measures against ailments like malaria, viral hepatitis, HIV and tuberculosis was also held.

Dental camp

Trishakti Corps’ Dental Unit has all along been championing the cause of oral health as a sine qua non of improving general health of the people in its zone.

A survey covering troops, their families and schoolchildren in the zone was conducted through check-up camps to assess the severity of the dental problems. Lectures were held with an aim to create awareness on dental care and preventive measures in order to make a significant and quantifiable difference to the overall health of the troops and their families.

Horse rides

Animal Transport Company of the Army Service Corps is instrumental in imparting basic and advance training on horse riding through various training camps to the children at Binnaguri Military Station.

In pursuance of this aim, a Summer Riding Camp was organised for the students of Army Public School from May 25 to June 25.

As many as 21 children of civilians and army personnel participated in the programme.

Various training events in equestrian activities were organised, benefiting the children immensely and encouraging them to pursue the sport with professional excellence.

Proficiency certificates were distributed to all the students who participated in the camp. not only The camp was first of its kind at the Military Station

Quiz contest

An Inter-School Quiz Competition was held on June 18 at the Town Hall, Hakimpara, Siliguri in which 14 schools from different districts of north Bengal participated.

Prominent institutions which sent students to the contest were Army School Sukna, Army School Bengdubi, St Joseph’s School Matigara, Don Bosco, Delhi Public School, Lincon’s School, Fanindra Deb Institute Jalpaiguri, Balurghat Boys School and Raiganj Coronation School.

The Army School in Sukna qualified in the preliminary round, along with seven other schools. Those who represented the school were Tanmay Das, Nikhil Ghavate, Biswatosh Raha and Sagnic Chakrabaorty.

Corrigendum

Colonel Bhutia and Colonel Sarkar were erroneously mentioned as the winner and runner-up of the veteran category of the Golf Cup Tournament 2008 conducted by Trishakti Corps at Rohini Ecological Park and Training Area on June 8 in the item published under “Golf Tournament” in the Army Live column of The Telegraph on June 16. The winner and runner-up of the veteran category were Col Sarkar and Col Bhutia respectively. We apologise for the errors.
