Cops open fire to disperse addicts

Dhubri: Dhubri police on Sunday afternoon opened fire to disperse a group of drug addicts who tried to free one of their friends from police custody on the campus of Dhubri Civil Hospital. he police said they had arrested a youth, Yah Yah Khan, for pillion riding two persons on his motorcycle, violating traffic rules, from near the hospital and took him to the police outpost inside the campus. After sometime his two friends came with a group of nearly 15 drug addicts and tried to free Khan from police custody. One of them was later arrested.

Rebels killed

Agartala: A joint team of Tripura State Rifles (TSR) and CRPF gunned down two National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) rebels, Sharat Malsum, and Chanrai Reang, in Vishnuprasadpara village under Ampi police station of South Tripura in the early hours of Sunday.

Accident

Nagaon: Two persons were killed and three critically injured when the Indigo in which they were travelling from Tezpur to Nagaon had a head-on collision with a bus around 1pm on Sunday at Puroni Gudam area, some 15km from Nagaon town.

Federal Assembly

Dimapur: The Naga Hoho has convened its “Federal Assembly” on July 23 at Hotel Japfu, Kohima, to discuss the prevailing situation in the state following internecine clashes between the warring Naga groups.

Houses gutted

Dhubri: Three houses were gutted when a fire broke out in ward 7 of Dhubri town on Saturday. Police said property worth Rs 6 lakh were destroyed.
