Beyond development
A forum devoted to studying, analysing and disseminating the paradigms of development in modern India, particularly in the rural sector, The Citizen’s Initiative has observed the events in Singur in the context of the displacement of its people for industrial development. Having visited Singur six times since February 2008, its photographers have extensively taken pictures of life in the area and how it has been affected by the fencing off of agricultural land. Under Development: Singur, the ongoing exhibition of photographs, features a collection that aims to cover the invisible distance between the affected village and the urban centre. The photographs make an attempt to show the real and far-reaching consequences of development in a place where, for generations, there has been no alternative to agriculture as a means of livelihood.

Event: An exhibition of photographs on Singur When: Till July 2; 2 pm - 8 pm Where: Seagull Arts and Media Resource Centre, 36C S.P. Mukherjee Road
