Woman held for husband murder

Jyotsna Mukherjee and Shibu Das were arrested on Thursday for allegedly poisoning her husband Ramchandra Mukherjee. The duo were arrested following a complaint by Ramchandra’s brother. He had alleged that Jyotsna had an affair with Shibu, a Calcutta police constable, and they had poisoned Ramchandra together. Ramchandra was found lying unconscious in his Rabindrapally house, in Birati, on June 21. He was rushed to RG Kar where he died on Tuesday. His body has been sent for post-mortem.

Kin cry neglect

Relatives of Sujata Kundu, 22, on Thursday lodged a complaint with Tollygunge police station alleging negligence by two doctors of Ramakrishna Sarada Mission Matri Bhavan after she delivered a stillborn baby. Sujata was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday morning.

Teen injured

A teenaged motorcyclist sustained serious head injuries after being dashed by a truck on Strand Road, near Gwalior Ghat, on Thursday afternoon. Ayon Das was admitted to SSKM Hospital.

Suicide

Tarakeswar Das, 27, committed suicide by taking poison on Thursday. He was found lying in a Metro Railway building under construction at Bansdroni. Police said that Das, a mason, was originally from Bihar. He was declared dead at MR Bangur Hospital.

Found dead

Gopal Pal, 60, was found dead with injuries on his body in his Olabibitala First Bylane house, in Shibpur, on Thursday morning. Police said Pal lived alone. He had suffered a heart attack last year. The body has been sent for post-mortem.

Water protest

About 150 residents put up a road block near the crossing of Beleghata Main Road and EM Bypass around 4pm on Thursday to protest the scarcity of drinking water in the area. The blockade was withdrawn after senior police officers spoke to the protesters.
