Jamshedpur, June 25: Shopping in swanky malls and watching movies in five-star luxury will soon be a reality in the steel city.

Jamshedpur-based real estate promoter Kaushal Kanchan Construction Pvt Ltd has bagged a project worth Rs 100 crore, which involves construction of a shopping mall, multiplex and an IT park. The project would come up on Marine Drive in Sonari.

“We are happy to get a sanction of the project from the state government and Tata Steel. The project is an initiative to develop the township,” said Kaushal Singh, the proprietor of the construction firm.

According to Singh, the project would come up in an area covering 3.64 acres on the Marine Drive.

“Tata Steel had given an approval for the land, following which we submitted Rs 15 lakh as the first instalment,” Singh said.

Elaborating on the project, the owner of the construction firm said that they have signed a deal with Mumbai-based consultant Hafeez Contractor. The consultant would make the architectural design for the entire project.

He informed The Telegraph that construction work for the project would begin in September this year. The project is expected to complete within two-and-half-years from the date of commencement of construction work.

Meanwhile, officials of the real estate firm revealed that enquiries were pouring in from leading business houses, including McDowells, ICICI, Reliance and Goenka group for putting by shops at the plush shopping mall. Officials revealed that the multiplex would have three cinemas equipped with modern facilities. The IT park premises would have the latest infrastructure for software and information technology.

The project is claimed to be one of the first high-profile investments in the city.

Earlier, filmmaker Prakash Jha’s firm had proposed to construct a multiplex worth Rs 50 crore. The district administration has also approved a piece of land for the multiplex at Bistupur after a dispute over the previous plot at Dhobi Ghat in Circuit House Area.

Tata Steel also has plans to come up with its centenary city centre at Agrico in Golmuri. The laying of foundation stone for the mall was scheduled in May, but had to be postponed.
