Guha case: Intuc rap for cops

Malda, June 24: Bengal Intuc president Subrata Mukherjee said here today that he would seek the intervention of the chief minister if police went on buying time to unfold the mystery behind the murder of Biswanath Guha.

Mukherjee, who was addressing a meeting to condole the death of Guha, said: “I do not understand why the police have been taking so much time to act. Guha was murdered on June 12. I am not ready to believe that Guha’s driver had murdered him alone. There was a deep conspiracy.”

Guha, the vice-chairman of the Englishbazar Municipality, was found dead in a pool of blood in an under-construction building close to his house on June 12 night with his head smashed with a brick. Guha had gone out of the house with one of his friends to the lodge. The police had arrested his driver who allegedly had an illicit relationship with Guha’s wife.

The Intuc leader said he had asked the district police chief to hand over the probe to an “appropriate authority”. Mukherjee added that he would meet the chief minister, Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, and demand speedy action against the culprits.

Mukherjee also threatened that his party would launch a movement if the police failed to unfold the mystery in two months. Mukherjee said railway employees’ union leader Pradip Ghosh had introduced Guha to him when A.B.A. Ghani Khan Chowdhury was the railway minister.
