Balurghat, June 24: Two employees of the Hili block office were tied up to a guava tree and beaten up at Chakbhrigu today for allegedly duping a youth from whom they had taken Rs 22, 000 with the promise of a job as ambulance driver in health department.
The youth Kamalesh Saha, a private bus driver, and his wife Swapna today met Niranjan Sarkar and Sanjay Das, the Group D employees of Hili block office, at Chakbhrigu. The couple took them to a roadside stall and offered them tea and snacks .
While exchanging pleasantries, the couple asked Sarkar and Das to return the Rs 22,000 they had taken from Saha six months ago. Both Sarkar and Das had no inkling that the couple had already gathered information that there was no vacancy for the post.
Soon the couple started a hue and cry over the issue and many people assembled in the area. As the crowd swelled gradually, it emerged that the duo had cheated many people in the past and they had been jailed for forging the signature of the Balurghat block development officer.
People tied up both the persons to a guava tree and beat them up badly.
Police reached the spot and rescued them from the mob wrath. Balurghat inspector-in-charge Dharmadeb Chatterjee said Sarkar and Das had been arrested and they had confessed to the crime.
Kamalesh said it was too late when he realised that he was duped.
