Ranjita Devi lifts title in tough match

Imphal, June 24: S. Ranjita Devi won the women’s title in the 18th State-Level Carom Championship that concluded at Mapal Kanjeibung here today.

In the final match, S. Ranjita Devi held her cool against Kh. Manjita Devi to win a match that tested both their nerves. Ranjita took the first set by 25-17 points, but Manjita made a strong comeback to clinch the second set by 25-20 points.

In the decider, Ranjita faced some tough challenge from Manjita, but she kept her cool to win by 25-20 points for the women’s title today.

The third place for taken by Th. Gita Devi who defeated O. Rebika Devi in a close fought match. Gita outplayed her opponent 25-20, 23-25, 25-1.

And in the sub-junior boys’ event, S. Somorjit Singh emerged as the champion defeating G. Subash in the final. Somorjit dictated the terms right from the beginning, never giving any opportunity to Subash, to take the first set 25-6.

Subash sprung back strongly in the next set to win it by 25-6 points.

Somorjit, however, snatched the final set by 27-24 points to win the title.

The third place was taken by Sh. Pitambar who defeated Yaimasana Singh.

In the title match of the men’s event, two-time champion L. Rakesh Singh defeated Ch. Arun Singh 10-25, 25-9, 25-10 to lift the trophy.

The third place in the category was taken by W. Netrajit Singh who defeated G. Subash Sharma 10-25, 25-4, 25-23.

In the veteran men’s, K. Kumar Singh was outplayed by L. Kesho Singh who won the game 21-19, 18-25, 25-0.

The third place of the category was bagged by N. Brojen Singh who overcame S. Ajit in straight sets of 25-5, 25-0.

Apart from the championship, the All Manipur Carrom Association will also be felicitating the winning team members of the 37th Junior National & Inter-State Carrom Championship held at Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh.
