The spirit of jazz
One of India’s foremost jazz pianists, Madhav Chari has a very strong presence in the international music world. He has performed with renowned musicians Chico Freeman, Jeanie Bryson, Tim Ries, Ray Spiegel, Ira Colman, Carlos Gomez, Herbie Hancock and Ron Blake. His passion for jazz music ignited at the age of 12, Chari’s improvisations with sounds make his music truly connect with listeners. This evening, Chari will perform The Great American Songbook, in a tribute to American composers such as Gershwin, Cole Porter, Thelonius Monk et al. Comprising a vast repertoire of songs that were originally composed by these music greats in 1920s and 1930s for Broadway musicals, his presentation sums up the fundamentals of jazz music. Also featuring Blues melodies, which has influenced and has been influenced by jazz music over the last 100 years. Hosted jointly by Calcutta School of Music and Public Affairs Office, US Consulate, Calcutta.
