Guha murder probe: DIG interrogates widow

Malda, June 18: A week after Englishbazar Municipality vice-chairman Biswanath Guha was murdered, deputy inspector general (DIG) of Malda range Bhagaban Ram Megawal arrived here today to oversee the case personally.

The DIG went to the residence of the deceased Congress leader and talked to his widow Lakshmi Guha for about 45 minutes. He also interrogated all those who had been with Guha before he was found murdered on Thursday night.

Lakshmi Guha told the DIG that she had been to a function organised by a television channel with her husband and both of them returned home around 10pm.

When Uday Roy, a local youth, called him, Guha went out of house with him. Within an hour, neighbours informed Lakshmi that her husband had been murdered.

The widow, who initially tried to shield driver Aktar Sheikh after the police had arrested him on that very night, today said both the chauffeur and Roy were behind the murder. “The mystery will be unfolded only if the two are interrogated,” she told Megawal.

The Malda district Congress today submitted a memorandum to the DIG demanding speedy completion of the case. Bengal PCC chief Priya Ranjan Das Munshi parried questions on the murder, saying he would speak on the matter only after holding discussions with the leaders.
