Bank fraud

Hyderabad, June 18 (PTI): Police have arrested a software engineer and his two accomplices for allegedly cheating banks of over Rs 28 lakh with forged documents.

di Durga Prasad secured bank loans with the help of the others by floating a bogus software firm and fabricating pay slips of reputed companies. They approached various banks, including Citibank, Barclays and HDFC, for loans of over Rs 28 lakh. They submitted fake pay slips of employees of Satyam computers drawing salaries of Rs 84,000 a month. About Rs 6.5 lakh cash and a laptop were recovered from Prasad.

Shop firing

Mumbai (PTI): Two persons opened fire in a leading watch company’s showroom at Mulund on Wednesday. Police said they entered the Titan showroom around 3pm and fled on in auto-rickshaw after firing a few rounds. No injuries were reported.

Temple

Madurai (PTI): The Meenakshi temple, known for its sculptures and paintings, has taken up a project to document the sculptures in its nine towers.

Beggar held

Gorakhpur (PTI): A 10-year-old boy kidnapped by a woman beggar, was rescued by volunteers in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday and the woman turned over to the police. The woman begged on trains near the Ghaziabad railway station, often making children join in. The police are investigating the involvement of an organised gang.

Cop injured

Kozhikode (PTI): A sub-inspector of police was injured when a protest march taken out by activists of the Kerala Students Union turned violent on Wednesday. KSU volunteers reportedly pelted the police with stones while trying to force their way into the office of the deputy director of education.

Bus mishap

Kottayam (PTI): One person was killed and nine injured when a bus ploughed into a crowd waiting at a bus stop in Kerala on Wednesday. The injured have been admitted to hospital. The bus was on its way from Erumeli to Kottayam.
