Survey on tourism facilities

Ranchi, June 15: National Sample Survey Organisation would undertake an extensive survey on domestic tourism, housing conditions and urban slums across the state.

It has constituted 544 sample survey units and will organise a three-day seminar in Ranchi from June 23 to discuss the issues.

“The current round is earmarked to collect information on domestic tourism, housing condition and urban slums. At the national level, the survey covers 12,928 units for central samples and 13,736 units for state,” said deputy director-general S.K. Das.

The survey on domestic tourism will mainly cover detailed information on household characteristics, trip characteristics, visitors’ characteristics and expenditure characteristics.

Domestic tourism has improved all over the country during the recent years and has played a great role in generating employment through different means.

Tourism specific development and investment, too, are on the rise in the national economy.

The survey on housing conditions will involve schedule data on structural aspects of dwelling units and basic amenities such as drinking water, toilet facilities, sewerage and electricity among others.

This would provide a broad idea of the dimensions of variables reflecting housing conditions.

The main purpose of the survey on urban slums is to collect information on present conditions and changes in the conditions of certain facilities available therein.

Both notified and non-notified urban slums would be taken into account.

The deputy director-general, however, also maintained that the data collected by the officials of field operations division are kept secret.

The result of the survey, the deputy director-general added, would be used for national planning and policy making purposes.

The National Sample Survey Organisation was set up by the Centre in 1950, for providing comprehen- sive information on a wide range of parameters to the policy makers and ad- ministrators for formula- ting Five Year plans, welfare and development oriented policies and also for appropriate administrative interventions.

The information provided by the National Sample Survey Organisation are also used by academicians and researchers for analysis and interpretation of socio-economic changes in the country.
