Lightning kills 1, injures 7

Raiganj, June 13: One person died and seven were injured after being struck by lightning at Bangalbari in Hemtabad this morning.

Vero Roy (35), a farmer, died on the spot after he was struck while working in a field. Of the seven injured, five were admitted to the Bangalbari primary health centre.


DM transfer

Malda: The district magistrate, Chittaranjan Das, has been transferred as the joint secretary of the Bengal food department. Sujit Dasgupta will succeed Das.


Body found

Jalpaiguri: The body of Chabi Begum (26), who had been missing for the past three days, was found in Kathambari near Kranti on Friday. Police suspect that the woman was strangled to death.


Prisoners ill

Jalpaiguri: Twelve of the 33 KLO militants who are on an indefinite hunger-strike since Wednesday at Jalpaiguri Central Jail demanding the speedy trial of their cases were admitted to the district hospital after their condition deteriorated on Friday.


Blood camp

Siliguri: The Indian Red Cross Society Siliguri will hold a blood donation camp at its office on Saturday. The camp will be held on World Blood Donation Day.


Tea meet

Siliguri: The 14th annual general meeting of the North Bengal Small Tea Planters’ Association will be held at the Kanchenjunga Stadium hall on Sunday. Bengal ministers Asok Bhattacharya and Anwarul Haque will be present at the meeting.
