Spurned lover stabs girl to death

Nagaon, June 13: A young man with a dagger walked up to the classroom of a school in a crowded neighbourhood in Nagaon town, called the teacher out for what looked like a chat and stabbed her repeatedly before almost being lynched by residents.

Sonapur youth Jehirul Sheikh, 30, stuck the dagger into 21-year-old Taslima Begum for allegedly breaking off an engagement.

Taslima died from her wounds while being taken to Bhugeswari Phukononi Civil Hospital.

Jehirul Sheikh is battling for life at the same hospital with serious chest, face and leg injuries after residents beat him up when he tried to flee after the attack.

Police said though they are yet to interrogate Jehirul, given his condition, he managed to convey that “the girl had gone back on her word to marry him”.
