Student shot

Cooch Behar, June 12: A college student was shot dead and eight sustained serious gunshot injured in a firing when some people fired on a Trinamul Congress procession in Toofanganj’s Baroitala police station area last night.

A bandh called by the party disrupted flow of traffic to Assam today. At least six other Trinamul Congress supporters sustained stab injuries.

Bhagalpur

The Union cabinet has approved a Rs 29.81-crore relief package for the next of kin of those killed in the Bhagalpur riots of 1989. Railway minister Lalu Prasad had pressed for it.

Polio virus

Badaun (PTI): The highly virulent P-1 and P-3 strains of the polio virus have been detected in two children in Uttar Pradesh. This is the first case of P-1 virus in the state.

MBAs jailed

Pune (PTI): An MBA student and her lover were jailed for life by a sessions court on Thursday for killing a fellow student with poison-laced prasad. Aditi Sharma and Praveen Khandelwal were held guilty in the crime of passion which took place a year ago.
