Stake sale on TCG firm menu

Calcutta, June 12: The board of SkyTECH Solutions, a Chicago-based aviation software services firm, is meeting tomorrow to discuss the company’s future, including a possible stake selloff.

SkyTECH is a joint venture between The Chatterjee Group (TCG) of Purnendu Chatterjee and United Airlines, the second largest US carrier.

According to industry sources, SkyTECH is “on the block” for sometime now with a host of companies showing interest, including Cognizant Technology Solutions.

When contacted, the Cognizant spokesperson in Chennai declined to comment, saying that the company does not comment on market speculation.

Cognizant is said to be the frontrunner to clinch the deal.

“The board is meeting tomorrow and it is one of those out of schedule meetings which we have often to discuss matters of extraordinary importance,” sources close to the development said.

“The board will decide on the future course of SkyTECH Solutions which would include many options,” they added.

Set up in 1999, SkyTECH develops niche software solutions for global airlines and airports. United Airlines is its captive client.

SkyTECH has three offshore development centres, one each in Calcutta, Mumbai and Chennai, with over 500 employees.

According to available figures, SkyTECH had a turnover of Rs 23.32 crore in 2006-07. Taking a 15 per cent growth rate, the company is valued at around $25 million.
