Bengal brought home a bagful of prizes from the 54th National Film Awards 2006, announced on Tuesday. A look at our booty:

Soumitra Chatterjee won the Silver Lotus best actor award for his role of an ageing father in Suman Ghosh’s Padakkhep. Soumitra’s character has a strained relationship with his fiercely independent daughter (Nandita Das).

Prosenjit fetched the special jury National Award for his role of a man straying into an extra-marital affair in Rituparno Ghosh’s Dosar. Prosenjit is torn between his wife (Konkona Sensharma) and the woman he loved and lost in this black-and-white film.

lDirector Goutam Ghose bagged the best cinematography award for his Hindi film Yatra starring Rekha, Nana Patekar and Deepti Naval.

lAniruddha Roy Chowdhury’s Anuranan and Suman Ghosh’s Padakkhep jointly won the National Award for the best Bengali film.

lAnjan Das’s Faltu won the award for the best film on family welfare. Faltu traces the journey of a mentally challenged woman (Indrani Halder) who gives birth to a boy after being raped.

lSpecial mention: Konkona Sensharma, who won the best supporting actress award for Omkara, and Dibakar Banerji’s Khosla Ka Ghosla which was adjudged best Hindi film.
