Dehing humble Tea men

Dibrugarh, June 10: Dehing Football Club, Duliajan, defeated Tamulbari Tea Estate by 4-2 goals in the inaugural match of the C.K. Sarma Invitation Football Tournament, which got under way at the Dibrugarh district sports association outdoor stadium from today.

Rupam Sonowal of Dehing Football Club was the first one to start the goal scoring activity, with a well-executed shot in the 7th minute of the match to give his team the lead. The Tamulbari boys soon came back strongly and Sanatan Lohar levelled the score in the 24th minute with a powerful strike.

However, Tamulbari could not maintain the lead for long as Rupam Sonowal got the second goal of the match within a couple of minutes. Banikanta Bora made it 3-1 for Dehing Football Club in the 37th minute.

Dehing Football Club maintained the 3-1 lead at the end of the first half.

In the second half, Tamulbari got their second goal within the first couple of minutes through a beautiful goal from Amir Lohar.

However, Dehing Football Club’s Bhaskar Phukon made it 4-2 in the 48th minute of the match to seal the fate for Tamulbari. The Tamulbari team tried hard to score in the final moments of the match but could not find any scoring opportunities.

Earlier, the tournament was formally declared open by former state footballer Mahendra Gogoi. DDSA president Jamshed Khan and former state footballer and OIL official Ramesh Phukon were also present during the inauguration among others.

In tomorrow’s matches, Namrup Town Club will take on Jeuti Sangha, Jokai, while Duliajan Football Academy will play against Chandoipathar Unnayan Sangha.
