Manipur cops win
- Policemen defeat Posterior Academy 5-2 to lift trophy

Imphal, June 8: Manipur Police Sports Club proved their mettle once more as they won the 2nd Meinam Amuba Singh Imphal West District Hockey Tournament title by defeating Posterior Hockey Academy at Khuman Lampak Hockey Stadium on Saturday.

Manipur Police Sports Club collected Rs 3,000 along with the tournament trophy, while Posterior Hockey Academy, Manipur, had to settle for Rs 2,000 and the runners-up trophy.

SAI RC team took the third place, while Yaiskul Athletic Club was given the consolation prize.

In the final match played on Saturday evening, the fancied Manipur Police Sports Club defeated Posterior Hockey Academy, Manipur, by 5-2 goals.

Manipur Police played a more disciplined and compact game than they have so far displayed in the tournament. They refused to let their guard down and shut out their opponents from the match.

They looked the better outfit of the two and proved it by lifting the prestigious trophy.

Manipur Police spelled out that they meant business when P. Adeva Singh ruffled the Posterior net in the very first minute. Posterior was driven on the backfoot, but they managed to steal a silent run in the 20th minute and A. Abung Singh scored the much needed equaliser for the team before the half time whistle was blown to level score 1-1.

The Posterior Hockey team however, wore a rather lacklustre look.

Their performance was at most ordinary, and even though they were fast on their feet, their execution in front of the goal lacked fineness.

In second half, it was P. Adeva Singh who exuded some brilliant skill with his stick to score the second goal for Manipur Police in the 39th minute.

Four minutes later, Th. Herojit Singh consolidated the lead with a goal to sideline the Posterior team.

Posterior Hockey Academy Manipur, however, refused to bow and came up with a surprise in the 53rd minute as Kh. Kothajit Singh scored a field goal, giving a new lease of life to the game with the scoreboard reading 2-3.

But the final sting was delivered by the policemen when P. Priyokumar Singh and Th. Birjit Singh scored a goal each in the 59th minute to shut out the Posterior men from the game and clinch the title for the policemen.

P. Adeva Singh of Manipur Police Sports Club, who scored 12 goals, bagged the Top Scorer title of the tournament.
