Driver changing flat tyre crushed

Lakshman Rajat, 25, a resident of Sarat Bose Road, was killed after being knocked down by a vehicle near Science City around 1am on Sunday. According to police, the victim, a driver, was changing a flat tyre of his Ambassador near the taxi stand in front of Science City. He was hit from behind and suffered critical head and spine injuries. Police rushed Rajat to Calcutta National Medical College and Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival.

Poorva timing

The Howrah-New Delhi Poorva Express, which leaves Howrah station at 8.05am, has been rescheduled on Monday. The train will leave Howrah at 1.15pm on Monday, railway officials said.

Dashed by car

Mohan Singh, 95, was seriously injured after he was dashed by a speeding car early on Sunday on Coal Berth Road, in the South Port police station area. According to police, Singh, a pavement-dweller, suffered fractures in his right shoulder and back and was admitted to SSKM Hospital. A case of rash driving was registered by police, and efforts are on to trace the driver and the car.

Pilgrims injured

Twelve pilgrims from among a group of 35 from Kidderpore heading for Furfura Sharif in Jangipara, Hooghly district, were injured after the truck they were travelling in overturned on Delhi Road near Maitypara, in Bally. The injured were taken to hospital and released after first-aid. Police said the driver lost control over his vehicle while taking a turn.

Free extra bag

Students flying British Airways from Calcutta and other airports between June 1 and November 30 can carry an extra bag weighing up to 23 kg free, the airline said. Bookings can be made through the airline’s website or travel agents.

Mains survey

Rites will start the survey work for laying an additional water mains under BT Road, connecting the Tallah waterworks with the Palta water station, from the last week of this month.
