Rainy weekend hint
Rain lashes Jamshedpur. Picture by Bhola Prasad

Jamshedpur, June 6: Keep the umbrellas and raincoats ready this weekend. The Patna Met office has warned of rain in several parts of the state in the next two days.

“A low pressure is hovering over Jharkhand. The trough, which extends from Uttarakhand to Bay of Bengal, would result in more rains in Jharkhand in the next 48 hours,” said T.N. Jha, the director of Patna Met office.

The Met office has predicted rain at several places. An analysis of the weather charts suggested heavy incursion of moisture into the atmosphere from Bay of Bengal, which is conducive for rain.

Several districts in Jharkhand have been experiencing rain for the past few days. Jamshedpur recorded the highest of the season on Tuesday when the local weather office recorded 62.2mm of precipitation. Several other districts also recorded rainfall of more than 50mm on June 3. It has been raining almost everyday in Jamshedpur and its adjoining areas since then.

Weathermen said places such as Hazaribagh, Koderma, Deoghar and Daltonganj also experienced rain in the past couple of days.

Statistics from the Met department show that Jharkhand recorded about 135mm rainfall between March and June. Last year, Jharkhand had received about 55mm of rain in the same period. This June, Jamshedpur recorded about 65mm of rainfall — the highest in four years — as compared to 15mm last year.

A senior weather analyst at Patna Met office said rain was more frequent due to Nor’westers. “With the present weather condition, we are optimistic that the south-west monsoon would hit the state as per schedule. Satellite pictures suggest that the monsoon is gradually advancing towards north. The wind pattern is also favourable,” he said.
