The chief minister’s convoy breezes down the new flyover

Fly over hurdles

The Bhangagarh flyover is a boon for those who pass through the busy GS Road. The inauguration of the flyover has eased traffic congestion on the road to a great extent.

The public works department should quickly construct the arm of the flyover connecting Gauhati Medical College and Hospital.

Hundreds of patients visiting the GMCH have faced immense inconvenience over the past three years because of the snarls during the construction of the flyover.

The PWD must also expedite the construction of the flyover at Six Mile. Its slow pace of construction inconveniences the residents and visitors to Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra.

The government must solve the problem of funds crunch in constructing flyovers in the city for better and smooth mobility.

More work days

It is heartening to hear that Gauhati University has finally decided to reduce its number of holidays for better academic atmosphere.

The move is seen as one of the initiatives taken by Gauhati University to offset the negative effects of the “bandh culture” on academics in the state. There is no denying the fact that frequent bandhs and strikes have affected the work culture and academic atmosphere of various institutions.

I believe everyone in the university should support the move in order to support this noble cause. At a time when there are emerging challenges in the field of education no one can afford to enjoy more holidays.

The number of workshops, seminars, interactive sessions and teachers training programmes should also be increased in order to improve the standard of education in the state.
