Rail staff test dates
The physical efficiency test for recruitment of Group-D staff, scheduled for June 5 and 6, will be held on June 10 and 11, Eastern Railway said on Thursday. The test will be held at the railway’s sports complex in Gholsapur, Behala, for the Sealdah division and at the RPF Ground, Liluah, for the Howrah division. There would be no change in the dates of the physical efficiency test to be held in Malda and Asansol.
Rain alert
The meteorological department has alerted the civic authorities to a cloudburst in the next 48 hours. Rainfall up to 120 mm an hour has been predicted. Municipal commissioner Alapan Bandyopadhyay has activated the civic body’s special disaster management squad, under the command of joint municipal commissioner Sahidul Islam, for round-the-clock surveillance from Thursday night.
Fatal cave-in
Sunil Guha, 50, a resident of Harekrishnapur, in the Jagacha police station area, died after the tiled roof of his shanty collapsed during the rain early on Thursday. He was alive when neighbours extricated him from the rubble and rushed him to Howrah District Hospital. There, he was declared brought dead.
