Man found dead

Siliguri, June 2: Siliguri police today found the decomposed body of Subash Banerjee (50), a resident of Nadia’s Ranaghat, from a hotel at Sevoke Road here.

The law enforcers said the employee of a private firm often stayed at the hotel, but had been refused accommodation the last time because he had run out of money. However, later he had probably sneaked into an unused room, the hotel management claimed. This afternoon, when some boarders complained to the manager about a stink coming from that room, he informed the police and the body was found.

BSNL protest

Siliguri: Members of the Joint Forum of Executive Association and Non Executive Union of the Siliguri unit of BSNL have protested against a report that appeared in the Press Information Bureau website on Friday stating that the unions have agreed to the listing of the power major in the share market. The protesters have also sent a telegram to the Prime Minister, claiming that the statement is fabricated.

Lightning

Islampur: Rasul Amin (45), a resident of Malda, died on Sunday night at Valuka in Goalpokhar after he was struck by lightning. Police said Amin was guarding a mango orchard when the incident occurred.
