Autonomy status in sight

Jamshedpur, June 2: The Graduate School College for Women (GSCW) began functioning with a handful of students on September 15, 1968. Today it boasts of over 7,000 pupils.

Founded by K. Savitri, the principal of the institution in the initial years, the college offered intermediate-level courses at the beginning. It went on to become an affiliated college of Ranchi University in 1971. It was made a constituent college in 1980.

GSCW is awaiting a nod from the University Grants Commission for autonomy.

From academics to co-curricular activities, the college imparts holistic education to students.

Shortage of teachers is an issue in certain departments, but the recent appointment of 17 teachers has come as a welcome relief to the authorities and the students.

Over the years, there has been a huge improvement in the grades of students of GSCW. Their performance in academics as well as co-curricular activities has also become enviable.

At the recently concluded Ranchi University Sports Meet, students of GSCW clinched the second position.

The present principal, Snehlata Sinha, took charge in 2006.
