Dhanbad, May 30: A leading co-educational college of yesteryear in Bihar and Jharkhand, PK Roy Memorial College in Dhanbad today has made a name for itself in undergraduate and postgraduate studies in the coal belt under Vinoba Bhave University, Hazaribagh.
Established in 1949 and one of the seven constituent colleges in Dhanbad under VBU, PK Roy Memorial is also the sole PG centre in the coal belt.
It churned out university toppers in nearly seven subjects in 2007. In economics, 10 students got the highest marks in the university, followed by students of science and mathematics. There were three toppers in political science and one in history, too.
On an average, in every subject, three to five students from the college have always been among the first 10 toppers of VBU.
The college boasts of an excellent postgraduate faculty, too. Nirmal Chatterjee, chairman of the minority commission and former vice-chancellor of VBU, has been the head of mathematics of the college.
