Body in city hotel

Calcutta, May 29: The body of an unidentified man was found in the room of a hotel near Sealdah station tonight. His throat had been slit.

On Monday, a man identifying himself as Sunil Das had taken the room. Das told the staff this morning that he was expecting a guest. But when there was no activity noticed in the room all through evening, the staff got in and found the body. Das is missing.

Civic polls

Calcutta: The government has issued a notification for polls to 13 municipalities on June 29. Bypolls in eight wards will be held that day. The last date for filing nominations is June 5 and for withdrawal June 9.

Metro rescue

Calcutta: A man fell unconscious on the Metro rail tracks at Rabindra Sarovar. Metro staff rescued Sayanjib Basak before the train arrived.
