2 held for assault
The owner of a nursing home and an employee were arrested on Wednesday on charges of assaulting another employee who was sacked on Tuesday. The duo were held after the former employee lodged a complaint with Beleghata police station. olice said clinic owner Lalit Soni warned Rajib Chakrabarty after sacking him not to come anywhere near the nursing home. Chakrabarty said in his complaint that he had gone to a shop in front of the nursing home when Soni and his employee, Chandrakant Mishra, attacked him. “They beat me up on the road. They also snatched my gold chain,” Chakrabarty said.
Suicide
The results of Madhyamik 2008 led to a suicide and a failed attempt. Prosenjit Dey, of Ashokenagar Boys’ Secondary School, in Barasat, hanged himself at home on Wednesday afternoon. Prosenjit saw on the Net that he had failed in the science papers. Neighbours alleged that his stepmother had threatened to throw him out of the house if he failed. Sutapa Saha, 16, of Nischinda Ghoshpara Balika Bidyalaya, in Howrah, tried setting herself on fire. She was rushed to Belur State General Hospital with 80 per cent burns, from where she was shifted to SSKM Hospital. Her condition is said to be critical.
Hill flights
To cater to the summer rush to the hills of north Bengal, Air India will operate additional flights on the Calcutta-Bagdogra sector on the first three Sundays of June. The flight will leave at 1.50pm and return from Bagdogra at 4.20pm. The airline is also offering discounts on tickets on the sector.
CBSE results
The CBSE Class X results will be declared on Thursday. The results will be available in all schools after 8am.
Brake failure
Two policemen and two guards were injured, one of them seriously, after a taxi dashed them at the toll plaza on the Howrah side of Vidyasagar Setu around 2.30pm on Wednesday. Police said the taxi’s brake failed in the toll plaza lane.
