Th. Singh wins title despite tie

Imphal, May 25: Third seeded Th. Sunachand Singh grabbed the title of the 11th State City Chess Tournament at Luwangsangbam today.

In the final fifth round, Th. Sunachand Singh drew with Bit Irom to split half point each. However, Sunachand, with a draw, topped the points tally with 4.5 points in his kitty. Th. Shantibhusan Singh with 4 points took the second place and Rk. Sudhirsana Singh fetch the third place with 3.5 points.

Based on the performance of the players during the tournament, the Manipur Chess Association has selected six top players to participate in the 11th National Cities Chess Tournament to be played this year.

The players are Th. Sunachand Singh, Th. Santibhusan Singh, Rk. Sudhirsana Singh, Bit Irom, L. Shakespere and Ng. Somekmilan Singh.
